2025 OREGON STATE DUAL (MEN)

Stanford Men take on Oregon State as the open the Spring 2025 season at Redwood Shores.

RESULTS

Stanford Men's Rowing kicked off the early season with a strong showing at the Redwood Shores Invitational this weekend. This regatta provided a valuable benchmark after a long winter of training, as Stanford lined up against Drexel, Santa Clara, University of San Diego, UC San Diego, and Oregon State. Cal was also in attendance but raced separately, making direct comparisons very tentative but still tempting.

Stanford’s 1V8+ and 2V8+ crews swept all their races, making for a great opening weekend. The margins were decisive, with multiple victories by 15+ seconds over the closest competitors. The 1V8+ clocked an impressive 5:35.2 on Friday, with the 2V8+ following at 5:43.5. Saturday brought headwinds, which slowed times across the board, but Stanford still controlled its races. A 6:05.4 time for one of Stanford’s 1V8+ races shows the strength of the wind. Lineups, particularly in the 2V8+, saw some variation as the team continued evaluating for the season ahead.

While Stanford and Cal didn’t go head-to-head, their races took place consecutively (so under similar conditions), making comparisons intriguing. On Saturday, the 1V8+ finished within four seconds of Cal in the first race and was effectively even in the second, despite Cal returning some top oarsmen from the Olympic hiatus. Sunday’s margins were slightly wider but still encouraging.

This regatta undoubtedly provided valuable insights for the team and coaching staff. It’ll be interesting to see if the results influence Stanford’s early-season rankings and how the team builds on this momentum in the coming weeks
